Former legendary musician Shane MacGowan was born on 25 December 1957, in Pembury, Kent. As of 2023, Shane was 65 years old.
Shane spent his childhood living in many parts of southeast England and attended an English public school. During his early life, he was into literature and also won a literary contest at the age of 13 sponsored by the Daily Mirror.
Likewise, he was offered a scholarship to Westminster School due to his talent in literature. However, he was expelled in his second year after getting caught in possession of drugs.
Due to his drug addiction, MacGowan spent six months in a psychiatric hospital and was diagnosed with acute situational anxiety. After the recovery, he joined St Martin’s School of Art and started a punk fanzine.

From an early age, Shane was into music and had formed the punk band, the Nipple Erectors along with Shanne Bradley.
Similarly, in 1982, he founded the Pogues where his songs were mostly influenced by Irish nationalism and Irish history. However, the band, Pogues was dismissed in 1992 and Shane formed a new band, Shane MacGowan and The Popes.
The band recorded two studio albums, a live album, a live DVD, and three tracks on the Popes Outlaw Heaven. Again in 2005, the band was dismissed as he rejoined the Pogues permanently.

Sadly, on November 30, 2023, MacGowan breathed for the last time beside his wife at his home in Dublin due to pneumonia. His funeral was held on December 8 in Dublin where his coffin was carried on a horse-drawn carriage as his fans lined the streets for his funeral procession.
